Dog-Friendly Cottage
in Wells-next-the-Sea
Coastguard Cottage is a genuinely dog‑friendly holiday cottage in Wells‑next‑the‑Sea, North Norfolk. With a fully enclosed garden, miles of walks from the door, and dog‑friendly beaches just a short stroll away, it’s the perfect base for guests bringing their four‑legged family members.
We welcome well‑behaved dogs and make sure they feel just as at home as you do.
When we go on holiday, we don’t want to leave Ella (our lab) at home to be looked after by neighbours or in kennels where she might not get walked as much as she is used to (and it works out expensive).
We used to have a holiday home about 15 miles away but we found that we were always driving to Wells-next-the-Sea beach for walks with Ella so we finally decided to sell up and find a dog friendly cottage in Wells…when we saw Coastguard Cottage for sale, it ticked all the boxes.
What makes Coastguard Cottage Dog-Friendly?
When we chose and furnished the cottage, we had dogs (especially Ella) in mind :
- Fully enclosed rear garden
- Outdoor tap for sandy or muddy paws
- Dog bowls provided
- Dog towels provided
- Hard flooring downstairs
- Space for a crate if you bring one
- Walks straight from the door
Everything is set up to make your stay relaxed, comfortable and easy.

Why you should take your dog to Coastguard Cottage

Close to the beach and Holkham Hall for dog walks
Coastguard Cottage is well located for the local beaches. You can walk your dog to the famous Wells beach where there are miles of sand to let your dog run around. There is a very small stretch of beach where dogs are not allowed but if you take the steps from the car park, it will take you straight to the dog friendly section. Another of our favourite doggie walks is to Holkham Hall either via the beach or via the road. Although dogs have to stay on the lead when there, it's a great place to walk around and often has events. We provide lots of local information of the walks we like and the places we recommend.

Enclosed garden to keep your dog safe
The cottage has an enclosed garden so you can let your dog out from the back door without having to worry that they may wander off. The garden has a small lawned dog friendly area as well as plenty of human friendly space to sit out on and in the summer it is a real sun-trap so you can use the deckchairs and soak up the sun.

Dog friendly indoors too
We have dog bowls for you to us and spare 'poo' bags if you need them...all you need to bring is a bed and maybe your dog's favourite toy.Downstairs is all floorboards so it's easy to sweep up any stray dog hair.In the winter, you and your pet can curl up in front of the log burner. Have a look through our room by room guide which has more details of the facilities and a walk through video. We do have a small extra charge for dogs but that is purely to cover the extra cleaning costs and is much less than kennelling your dog.The only things we ask is that:
- You don't allow your dogs on the furniture
- You don't allow your dogs upstairs - there is plenty of space for them to sleep downstairs. Ella usually sleeps in the kitchen.
- You clean up after them in the garden.

Pamper your dog in our dog spa
What accommodation could offer a dog spa? Ok, so maybe not a spa but if they have been out all day and have got a bit muddy or sandy then don't worry. There is an outside tap with a hose to clean them off. If they have forgotten their towel, no problem, we always have a spare one.If you want an extra treat for your pet, there is a pet groomer just by the quay, Country Dogs
